Transitions from Cohabitation to Marriage or Separation among the Birth Cohort of 1970–1984 in Lithuania

This paper aims to analyse the impact of demographic and social factors on first partnership in Lithuania – duration premarital cohabitation, sustainability such relationships, transition into marriage. The research is based 2019 Family Inequality Survey 1970–1984 birth cohorts. Data analysis shows that most young people began their as a cohabitation rather than marriage, average time spent increases within this cohort. Cohabitation eventually transitions five years after start almost all cohabitants marry, only small percentage cohabitating unions dissolve. Based Cox regression analysis, level education finished studies, well pregnancy, are significant predictors from results show three decades beginning spread Lithuania, competes with but it does not challenge importance marriage an institution childbearing upbringing.
